Songfinch is the best-known name in custom songs. It started in 2016 and says it has delivered more than 350,000 songs. A lot of people still look for a Songfinch alternative, usually because of price, timing or a policy they found in the fine print. This guide uses Songfinch's own help center to show what a Songfinch song really costs, then covers what its customers say and which alternatives fit which situation. It also says when Songfinch is the better choice.

How much does Songfinch cost?

Songfinch songs start at $179, but there's no single price. Songfinch's help center says “artists set their own prices,” and each artist's profile shows their rate. On the homepage, featured artists range from $179 to $1,099. Many sit between $199 and $299. Three things set your total:

• The artist you choose. This is the base price.
• How fast you need it. Standard delivery is 7 days. Songfinch charges $25 for each day faster, up to $200 for next day, and you can't add a rush after the order is confirmed.
• Add-ons. These include an extra verse (Songfinch songs usually run 2:30–3:30 with two verses), QR plaques, lyric prints, streaming release and license upgrades. Fulfilled add-ons are non-refundable.

Here's what that means in real money:

So for most people, a Songfinch song costs about $180–$300 with standard delivery, and $330–$450 if you need it within two days. Payment plans (Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm) are available in some regions. For every major service side by side, see our custom song price comparison.

What you own

Every Songfinch song comes with a personal-use license. You can share it privately and use it in personal videos. Songfinch says the artist keeps ownership of the recording, and public or commercial use needs a paid license upgrade.

What Songfinch reviews say

On Trustpilot, Songfinch has a 4.5 out of 5 TrustScore from about 23,600 reviews. Its own landing page shows 4.6. About 86% of Trustpilot reviews are 5 stars and about 3% are 1 star. That's a strong record for a company this size, and it's a big part of why Songfinch is many people's first stop.

The patterns tell you more than the average. In recent reviews:

• Happy customers mention the emotional reaction when the song was played, artists who clearly used the details they gave, and helpful support.
• Unhappy customers mention lyrics that felt generic despite a detailed story, melodies that felt repetitive, later-than-expected deliveries, and the refund and revision limits.

The complaints follow from the model: a different human artist writes each song, so results vary from artist to artist. For both brands' reviews side by side, see Songfinch vs Songlorious.

Why people look for a Songfinch alternative

1. Price

With prices starting at $179 and popular artists higher, Songfinch is a premium purchase. If your budget is closer to $100, you need a Songfinch alternative, not a cheaper Songfinch artist.

2. Timing

Standard delivery takes 7 days, and each faster day costs $25. If the birthday or anniversary is two days away, the delivery fee alone is $150.

3. No refunds after your artist starts

Songfinch's policy is clear: “Once your artist has accepted your order, refunds and cancellations are not possible.” That's common for custom work, but it's worth knowing before you spend $200 or more.

4. A short revision window

You get a lyric draft to react to, but if you don't respond within 24 hours, the artist records from their draft. After delivery, you have 72 hours to request free revisions. Bigger changes, like tempo or genre, can mean extra work or fees. After 72 hours, revisions aren't guaranteed. If you order early for a gift weeks away, that window can close before you've really lived with the song.

Songfinch alternatives compared

Here's how the main alternatives to Songfinch compare on what buyers ask about most: price, speed, who makes the song, and what happens if you want changes.

Songfinch and its alternatives: when each one wins

Songfinch: best if you want a song made entirely by a human artist

Songfinch says every song is written, sung and produced by real human artists, with no AI lyrics or synthetic vocals. If that matters to you, you'll pay $200 or more, and the occasion is more than a week away, Songfinch is a strong choice. Its artist pool and review history are the largest in the category. Pick an artist whose samples match the sound you want, and answer the lyric draft within 24 hours.

Storied Song: best for a personal song at about half the price, or a close date

Storied Song costs $99 for delivery in 4–5 business days, or $179 for delivery within 36 hours, with no artist tiers. Storied Song uses AI music tools in the songwriting and production process to turn your story into a personalized song. Your answers about the person, a real memory, and the style and mood you pick shape the lyrics and the song. Every order includes one free revision, which you can request within 14 days of delivery instead of 72 hours. Our refund policy spells out when we refund, for example if the song isn't delivered on time or doesn't match the style you chose and a revision doesn't fix it.

The trade-off: you don't choose a named human performer. If that's the point of the gift for you, Songfinch is the better fit.

Songlorious: best if you want to read the lyrics before anything is recorded

Songlorious, known from Shark Tank, says it has delivered 300,000+ songs. It describes itself as “human-led, artist-driven, and technology-assisted”: in-house songwriters write the lyrics, and producers build the song with AI-assisted tools, using the voice of a real singer you choose, licensed with permission. Before anything is recorded, you can reword any line for free. A 2-minute song is $180 and a 3-minute song is $250, delivered in 4 days, or faster for $20–$85. It rates 4.8 on Trustpilot from about 240 reviews.

Instant AI song apps: best for a joke or a last-minute placeholder

Services like TunedForYou cost about $20 and deliver in minutes. Fine for a funny group-chat song. For an anniversary or a memorial, the lack of real personal detail usually shows.

Whichever you choose, the song is only as personal as what you give it. Specific moments beat general praise: the nickname, the coffee order, the song you danced to in the kitchen. Our guide to what to write in a custom song order shows exactly what to include.
